Spring break!! As is characteristic with most breaks, it went by wayyyy too fast. I definitely could have used another week. I mostly worked throughout my spring break and got ahead on school work, but I did spend a couple of days at my great aunts lake house in Decatur. My family has come to nickname Decatur "the armpit of Illinois," but the one corner of paradise (or at least the one place we all have fun) in Decatur is my great aunts lake house.
My boyfriend, Evan, and I left on the Saturday spring break began and we met everyone there in the evening. "Everyone" was my mom, dad, and my two little sisters, plus a couple of their friends. Needless to say, I had been looking forward to some rest and fun time hanging out with my family. Evan and I had to leave Sunday evening because we both had work, so it was a quick but restful trip.
On Saturday, my mom made chili. My mom has never really been known for her cooking, but she does make a mean chili. I can't order chili at restaurants anymore; hers just hits different because it's sweeter and has less meat and more beans and soup. After we all got our fill of chili, we raided the freezer for the all the ice cream tubs. The rest of the night was spent playing pool and ping-pong, in which my dad gets way too competitive. We played around-the-world ping-pong, which moves very fast, especially toward the end. Whoever won each game would pose with this big trophy that I think my great uncle won in a rugby league or something. It was a great time full of belly-laughs and bad dad jokes.
On Sunday, we took our time getting up in the morning since we were up late the night before. My mom made a nice breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and sausage which really hit the spot. Later in the afternoon, we went shopping at Target (my favorite place) and we went to the mall. Evan and I were planning on going to Krekels, my favorite restaurant chain in Decatur, but unfortunately it was closed on Sundays. So Evan wanted to try a place called Mr. Beast Burgers, which weirdly enough, was inside a Perkins. We took the food back to the lake house and hung out a little more to let our food settle (because those were some enormous burgers!) before we drove back to Macomb.
It was a great little spring break trip with my family and friends. As we were leaving, Evan asked me if we could come back the next weekend, in which I just laughed and said, "I wish."
